The Open Music School in Berlin offers free music lessons and opportunities to make music together. Through regular classes, group sessions, and informal gatherings, we create a welcoming environment where people of all backgrounds can learn, practice, and share their love for music.
We offer a wide range of music activities, from guitar, piano, ukulele, and bass lessons to choirs and group singing sessions. Every couple of months, participants come together for our Open Music Nights, where everyone is invited to perform, experiment, or simply enjoy making music together in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
The Open Music School is built around the idea that everyone has something to contribute. More musically experienced participants often support others as helpers or translators, creating a knowledge-sharing community where learning happens collaboratively and across languages.
Our work has received several recognitions over the years, including the Berlin Music Commission’s “Listen to Berlin” Award (2017), the “Active for Democracy and Tolerance” Award (2020) from the Alliance for Democracy and Tolerance, the “Music Cities Award – Best Initiative to Support Diversity & Inclusion in Music” (2023), and the “Community Award” at the 2024 Social Startup Pitch.
